Last night, I saw something amazing and astounding. At Eichenstein's shul on Devon, currently incarnated as the "Chicago Center for Torah and Chesed," there was a live video feed of Rabbi Yisroel Reisman's weekly shiur, which takes place in New York. The frame rate was slightly disconcerting, but only slightly.

Apparently, there is an organization which broadcasts various weekly shiurim by famous rabbonim via high speed internet. Eichenstein's is also bringing in Rabbi Yissocher Frand's Thursday night shiur.

I find this whole thing extremely cool, combining Torah and cutting-edge technology. I went and had a look at the equipment afterwards. There was some kind of specialized modem- there was no computer involved. It also looks like the shul recorded the shiur on DVD. I tried finding out more about the organization which provides this service through google, but nothing came up.
