Listen to his interveiw with Tovia singer here, from Arutz Sheva.
What caused this transition? Well, what his original inspiration was, only G-d knows. Eventually, though, he came to question whether the Jews' Torah had indeed been corrupted, as Islam claims. After studying the Torah, he realized that there's a big difference between the Torah and the Quran. That difference is: the Torah records many mistakes and sins of both the Jewish people and their leaders. Walid specifically mentions the stories of David HaMelech as a factor which convinced him that the Torah had not been corrupted. Think about it. Moshe can't enter Israel. Shimshon and Delilah, The sons of Eli, Pilegesh B'Givah. Heck, most of Shoftim is an account of the Jews' sins over the period of 440 years before the Beis HaMikdash could be built. Doesn't exactly seem like the Jews are trying to make it look good for themselves, does it?
