Happy 4th! A good time to think about what America actually gives us.
Especially for Jews, America is a unique country. It might go overboard in its moral acceptance sometimes, but it is truly a wonderful country, where there is (practically) no distinction between the population and the government. It may not seem so amazing to us that we aren't under the control of a government that could abuse our rights for its own benefit, but that's exactly what IS so amazing. It has become an assumption that a population should be able to decide their own laws, rights and responsibilities. The world wasn't like that before America.
